Volunteers Needed:

Tutors Needed:

We are looking for as many volunteers as possible to act as tutors during LTCEA's Summer Tutoring Enrichment Program. The program is during the entire month of July with sessions from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. on Monday - Friday. There are no fees or qualifications necessary; however, LTCEA asks that volunteers are skilled in reading and math. They would prefer that volunteers commit to everyday of the summer program but they happily accept any time or day that a volunteer can give.

About This Project

The Learning and Tutoring Center of East Austin (LTCEA) is a non-profit organization for the purpose of providing tutorial services to help children in academic subjects such as reading and mathematics. Their mission is to help eliminate illiteracy in their community and to enhance the children's abilities to obtain the academic, social, and life skills needed for their future. The LTCEA hosts a Summer Tutoring Enrichment Program (STEP) each year which provides reading, math and writing activities and tutoring for students from Pre-K to 12th grade.  Goodwill Globetrotting's directors will be volunteering their time every week as tutors and we are also helping to recruit other volunteers for this year's summer session. We are happy to say that we have already recruited seven part-time tutors but we could always use more so we hope that you will join the team.

Why This Project

Although the summer program has been successful for the past three years, LTCEA feels that they haven't done enough for the children of their community and need more volunteers so that the children can receive much needed one-on-one face time with tutors. One of their main goals is to reach out to at-risk students who are on the verge of dropping out of school and these students require more personal attention to help them get caught up. Goodwill Globetrotting and LTCEA would appreciate your help to make a difference in the educational needs of the children in their community.

Additional Info

In addition to volunteering your time, you can make a big contribution to LTCEA by donating school supplies for the students to use. Please refer to the list on this page for suggested items you can donate.
