About This Project

Goodwill Globetrotting is working hard to support Furaha House: African Family Center's many programs designed to help African refugees and immigrants in the Austin area adapt to American life. Furaha House is a new Austin-based nonprofit that ...strives to lead African refugee and immigrant families to achieve self-sufficiency through culturally competent services and multidisciplinary programs in strategic partnership with like minded organizations by establishing a diverse, dynamic, and sustainable community.
Together we are looking for volunteers to spend quality time on the weekends as mentors for the newly arrived refugee and immigrant individuals and families from Africa. We are also looking for tutors to help the children of these families with their homework and English studies. In addition to recruiting volunteers, we are also actively helping them to acquire many of the material goods needed for them to grow and effectively run their organization.

Why This Project

Why Mentor? These are families in need of help adjusting to American life and in need of friendly people who can make them feel welcome in their new communities.
Why Tutor? Many of these students are placed in grade levels above their education level on arrival and have difficulty keeping up with academic standards expected of them.
Why Donate? We are very proud to say that we have already managed to acquire four computers for their head office but, as a new organization, Furaha House still has many material needs that can make a significant impact on their ability to accomplish their mission.
This is a rare opportunity to learn about African culture and make a meaningful impact on the lives of people in your community who need it most. Your support in any of these areas would be greatly appreciated and we hope you'll join us in making people who have come here due to unfortunate circumstances feel at home in Austin.
